Kathryn H. Maas, age 90 of Scribner
Died Sunday October 18, 2015 at her home.

Kathryn was born April 13, 1925 near Scribner to Otto and Nellie 'Gritton' Lange. She was raised in the Scribner area, baptized on March 26, 1933 at St. John's Ridgeley Lutheran Church and attended rural schools through the 8th grade. After her schooling, she held a variety of positions including manufacturing war supplies and ammunition during WW II at the Mead Ordinance Plant. She became the bride of Herman Maas on April 29, 1951. They lived and farmed west of Scribner where she was very involved in all aspects of the farming operation. While on the farm, she was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church. After moving from the farm in 1981, they settled on a Scribner acreage, then into town in 1989. After the closing of Trinity Lutheran, Kathryn became a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Scribner. Since joining St. Peter's, she volunteered many hours to the Orphan Grain Train. In her 70's, she went to Latvia and Russia to do mission work. She had a variety of hobbies including quilting, playing cards, and tending to her many varieties of plants. Kathryn especially loved travel and spending time with family and friends.

  1. LeRoy & Janis Poppe
Our sympathy to the Maas family. Kathryn was a good friend. I especially enjoyed her knowledge of plants. She always brought unusual plants and flowers to the Dodge Co. fair for many years. She was faithful with that until health and age prevented her from coming. She was a gifted quilter also. Let your memories bring you smiles and God grant you peace. Sorry we couldn't attend services as we were out of town.
  2. Carolyn Butler
Deepest sympathy to the Maas family. So very sorry I was unable to attend today. May you find comfort and peace knowing she is celebrating in heaven.
  3. Nancy Tesnohlidek
I want to extend my deepest sympathies to my dear friend Deb and to the rest of Kathryn's family.
Although I only met her a few weeks ago, we bonded over our mutual love of gardening and sewing. It was an honor to share an afternoon with her, thank you Deb for arranging that beautiful visit.
  4. Larry Moeller
So sorry to here of "Mossy's" death. She was a good friend to my Mother, Vivian Moeller, and they had lots of fun together. 90 years is something to Celebrate, for sure. Sympathies to her family, esp my high school classmate, Deb Maas Clausen.
