Emma was born November 26, 1911 near Monroe, Nebraska to Jacob and Elizabeth 'Mohr' Kaufmann. She was baptized in St. Paul Lutheran Church, which was near Monroe. She grew up on the family farm near Wolbach.

On October 24, 1942, Emma was married to Ed Barrett. He was killed in action while serving in the military during WW II. Later, on December 26, 1948, Emma was married to Tom Sutton in Denver, Colorado. Emma was employed in Denver by Denver Dry Goods. The couple lived in Seattle, Washington for 35 years, where Emma was employed by the Bon Marche Department Store. They moved to Fremont in 1985 and became members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Her husband Tom died in December of 1998.

Emma was preceded in death, in addition to her husbands, by her parents, 2 sisters, Lydia and Mary, 4 brothers Jake, Fred, Henry, and Adam.

The funeral service will be 1 PM Wednesday (March 4th) in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with the Rev. Timothy Gierke and Rev. Timothy Anderson officiating. The committal will follow in Memorial Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Hour.

Visitation will be at the Ludvigsen Mortuary on Tuesday (March 3rd) from 2 to 8 PM, and at the church on Wednesday for an hour before services.
