Gerald was born June 10, 1921 in Herman to Will and Mabel (Lund) Sheets. He grew up in the Herman/Blair area.

He served in the United States Army from July of 1942 to November of 1945. He was a medic with the rank of Corporal T5 in the 10th Mountain Division and saw duty in Italy and in the Aleutian Islands.

On December 15, 1945 Gerald was married to Mildred Lass in Marysville, Kansas. They had lived in several communities in this area, including Tekamah and Fremont. Gerald had worked as farmhand, and in construction. Then he went to work for the Fremont Dept. of Utilities as a yardman and maintenance mechanic, retiring after 23 years there.

He was a member of Fremont's VFW Post 854.

Gerald was preceded in death by his wife Mildred in January of 2007, and also by an infant son, 5 sisters and 2 brothers.

The funeral service will be 2 PM Thursday (March 20th) in the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont with the Rev. Tom Shaw officiating. The committal will be in Ridge Cemetery with Military Honors by the Fremont Honor Guard of the American Legion Post 20 and VFW Post 854.

Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association. Visitation at the Ludvigsen Mortuary, Fremont, will be on Wednesday from 2 to 8 PM with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 PM.
