Joy Dorlene Luther, 63, died on March 22, 2020.

Joy was born August 15, 1956, in Fremont, Nebraska to Wayne and Dorlene Sager Luther. Her father was a successful farmer, trucker, and cattle feeder. Her mother created a loving home and supported her husband in his business.

Throughout Joy's life she was surrounded by family who loved her and appreciated her quiet presence and laughter. After leaving Hooper, Joy located in Lincoln, Nebraska where she worked 41 years for Assurity, formerly Woodmen Accident and Life. Joy was recognized for her knowledge and commitment. She was known for being a positive influence at her workplace. A valued employee, Joy took pride in doing her work well.

Her interests included music as well as sports. She was an avid fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers as well as the Kansas City Royals, attending many games. She loved family gatherings. For her, the greatest joy was to be with everyone and to look around and see all the people who meant so much to her.

Joy is once again with her mother, Dorlene Luther who died in 2013. She is survived by her father, Wayne Luther of Hooper; sisters Ann Luther of Omaha and Sue Meier (Kenton) of Nashville, TN.; niece, Karen Meier Rogers (Jonathan), great nephew Noah, great nieces Elise and Adeline; nephew Kevin Meier (Elizabeth) and great nephews Simon and Cameron and great niece Cora; niece Kristen Meier and great niece Haven.

****** Update on Service information*****

A Graveside Service was held on June 27 at the Hooper Cemetery to honor and celebrate the life of Joy D. Luther who passed away unexpectedly on March 22, 2020. Joy was laid to rest beside her mother, Dorlene Luther. Immediate family members in attendance included Joy's father, Wayne Luther, sisters Ann Luther and Sue Meier, brother-in-law Ken Meier, niece Kristen Meier, great niece Haven Fisher, and Joy's friend, Margaret Wiesen. Nieces and nephews from Tennessee unable to attend released artificial butterflies and shared memories of Aunt Joy during the service officiated by Vicar Bob Ball.

The family had hoped to host a Celebration of Life with those who knew and loved Joy. However, we have determined that a gathering remains a safety issue for the foreseeable future and to honor Joy's loving spirit and concern for others no additional service is planned. We thank all our family and friends for your support and memorials. Feel free to give Wayne a call or stop by and visit if you see him sitting on the patio. Joy was a precious member of our family and a loyal friend to many. She is greatly missed by us all.

Joy will be remembered as a loving daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She is missed.

Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Mathew 5:4

We grew up together, and our families were connected in the sweet way that happens in small farming communities.
Joy's kind, thoughtful, compassionate ways were an encouragement to all.

Joy was such a special gift to all of us but especially to Assurity and the Imaging Department. I will cherish all the time we had together especially the conversations about sports, Royals baseball and Nebraska Volleyball. I will forever appreciate her, "Can do" spirit at work. Over 43 years and she treated each day like it was her first day. It will be very hard going forward without her but just thinking about her every day will bring a smile to my face and light up the room. JD you were one awesome person and I loved every minute we had together.

I worked with Joy at Assurity. Since I'm from Scribner (3 years older) we enjoyed exchanging info about the latest news from home. We'd help each other fill in the blanks when we couldn't quite remember who was related to who or details of certain events. I will miss our conversations, her smile and positive attitude. And recommendations of what car to buy next and from who!! She was a loyal customer! Dang, I can't believe she's gone! My deepest sympathies to her family and friends.
