Harland G. Porter of Scribner went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 29, 2008. Harland, the second son of Grover and Johanna 'Haye' Porter was born at his parents home, May 11, 1919. He attended grade school at District 74 and graduated from Scribner High School in 1936. After high school he armed and fed cattle. From 1942 to 1945 Harland served in the U.S. Army with the 321st Bomb Group. On December 7, 1947, Harland married Marilyn Naber at St. John's Lutheran Church, Cuming County Line. After their marriage, he continued feeding cattle and farming. Harland was a member of St. John's Ridgeley Lutheran Church Scribner and served on the church council. He also served on the school board for District 12, as well as the Ridgeley Township board.

4 Sons - Jim and wife Rita Porter of Castle Rock, CO.
John and wife Joanne Porter of Prosser, WA.
Rodney and wife Peggy Porter of Sioux City, IA.
Ronald and wife Cheri Porter of Scribner
Daughter - Gail and husband Steve DeRiese of Lincoln
2 Sisters - Minerva Naber of Scribner
Eula Marie Hingst of Scribner
Sister-in-law - Lois Porter of Fremont
10 grandchildren
4 step-grandchildren
many nieces and nephews.

Harland was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Harold and Donald, Sister-in-law Lolita Porter, and Brothers-in-law Myron Naber and Wesley Hingst.

The funeral will be 10:30am, Monday March 3 at St. John's Ridgeley Lutheran Church, Rural Scribner. The Rev. Dr. Nicki McIntyre will officiate. Burial will follow in the Scribner Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. John's Ridgeley Lutheran Church. Visitation will be on Sunday from 3:00pm to 8:00pm with family receiving friends from 6pm to 8pm. Visitation will continue 1 hour before service Monday at the church.
