Jim was born on April 10, 1946, in Grand Island, NE, to Frank and Agnes (Branigan) Mullally. He grew up in North Bend and graduated from North Bend High School in 1964. He served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1970. After his discharge, he began his career as a telephone installer with Western Electric Installation, retiring in 1996. He then worked another 25 years in the garden center at Walmart in Fremont before finally retiring to enjoy old western movies from the comfort of his recliner. He also enjoyed searching for bargains at garage sales and collecting Volkswagen Beetles and memorabilia. Known for his kindness and generosity, Jim was always willing to lend a helping hand.
He married Marlene Stuehmer on October 25, 1969. They raised their four children in Fremont, NE. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) for 47 years.
Survivors include his wife, Marlene; two sons, Jeff (Naoko) Mullally of San Diego, CA, and Kurt (Amanda) Mullally of Detroit, MI; two daughters, Jayne (Jason) Arens of Crofton, NE, and Julie Mullally of Evergreen, CO; thirteen grandchildren: Kylie and Kona Mullally; Haley (Landon) Withrow; and Tanner, Connor, Jordyn, Rylie, Kaden, Avery, Myla, Skylar, Xander, and Braden Arens; two great-grandchildren, Wesley and Evelyn Withrow; three sisters, Sharon (Dan) Strecker of Central City, NE, Maureen ''Micki'' Walker of Lincoln, NE, and Jeanne (Vaughn) Kinney of Colorado Springs, CO; four sisters-in-law, Deb Mullally of North Bend, NE, Lisa Mullally of Columbus, NE, Judy (Vern) Schuler of Hooper, NE, and Doreen (Fred) Spath of Urbandale, IA; two stepbrothers, Gary (Marge) Desler of Las Vegas, NV, and David Desler (Mike Metcalf) of San Francisco, CA, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Agnes; stepmother, Pat; two brothers, Jack and Bob; brother-in-law, Phil Walker; and three great-grandchildren, James and John Withrow and Mariella Arens.
A visitation will be held on Monday, May 18, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with family receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., followed by a rosary. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 19, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Fremont, NE, and will be officiated by Father Joseph Sund. Military Honors will be conducted at the church. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in rural Scribner following the meal.
