Fred was born to Oscar and Lulu Johnson and was a brother to Marvin, Anna, Ruth, Shirley, Hazel and Arlene. Fred's wife of 67 years was Virginia (Klein) Johnson who he married in 1953 while being employed at the Nebraska Ordinance plant near Mead. Fred was a member of the Nebraska National Guard at which time he served with a good friend, brother- in- law, and eventual business partner Bill Snyder, who he co-owned and was a primary operator of a chicken/hog operation near Scribner. Many in the area know him from his time at Hormel's, Diers Ford, and his post-retirement job with Nye Senior Services where he was well known for his affection and care towards those he transported. Many also remember Fred and "Ginger" from their many years at the Fremont Farmers Market.
After the death of his wife in 2020, Fred's sister-in-law of 72 years and neighbor of many years, Pat Snyder, naturally transitioned to being Fred's best friend. Fred often attended gatherings of Pat and niece Lori (Craig) Schmidt's family, where he was thrilled to hold and play with his Great-Great Nieces.
Fred was a devout listener to Dr. Arnold Murray/Shepherds Chapel and remained so till the end. Fred found his local Church home at the Platte Valley Church of Christ, where he attended with the family mentioned above. Fred will have a lasting impact on the many he hugged and told "I love you".
A celebration of life will be held at the Platte Valley Church of Christ on Saturday, January 3rd at 10 am, burial of he and Ginger will be at the Memorial Cemetery Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at 2:30pm.
The family ask any memorials be directly made out to Fred's favorite charities and churches... Shepherd's Chapel of Gravette Arkansas, St Judes, Platte Valley Church of Christ, and FurEver Home of Fremont Nebraska.
