Joan F. Scott, age 85, of Fremont
Died Saturday, September 13, 2025 at Methodist Fremont Health.

Joan Brand Scott was born on October 20, 1939, to Harold and Enies (Henry) Brand in Fremont, Nebraska, where she was lovingly raised. Her childhood was spent in a farmhouse west of the Fremont (Siems) Airport and east of the drive-in theater along the highway's south side. Even in her youth, Joan's gentle spirit and deep appreciation for God's creation were evident through her love for horses and buggies.

Joan received her early education at Beebe School from first through eighth grade and graduated from Fremont High School in 1957. Throughout her school years, she was actively involved in GAA, Tiger Club, Drama Club, and 4H. Following high school, Joan pursued cosmetology at Reece and Sybil School of Cosmetology in Lincoln, NE, where she honed her skills with dedication and grace.

Joan's life was deeply rooted in her faith. A lifelong member of First Lutheran Church, she was baptized into the Christian faith in 1942, confirmed in her commitment to Christ, and married her beloved high school sweetheart, Merrill ''Butch'' Scott, in 1959 at First Lutheran Church. Her devotion to her church family was unwavering, as she served faithfully through Altar Guild, The Banquet ministry, and co-founding the First Lutheran Youth Group (FLYs) alongside Butch.

Joan's career reflected her love of serving others. She worked at Laurene's Beauty Salon, spent seasons at Dekalb Seed Corn, and dedicated many years as a lunch lady for Fremont Public Schools at the old Junior High and North Side School. Alongside these roles, she and Butch ran their own ''food wagon,'' offering homemade meals for sale at auctions and horse shows.

She found fellowship and encouragement in her involvement with the Beta Upsilon Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha, Bakers Dozen, and Gals with Goals.

Joan and Butch made their home on Big Island in 1965, where they lived for 21 years before moving to the Davenport Addition in town. Together, they were blessed with two children, Brad (Barb) Scott and Beth (Matt) Schiermann. They rejoiced in their growing family, welcoming three grandchildren, Courtney (Tanner) Petersen, Blake Svatora (special friend Autumn Schulenberg), and Brycen Svatora; and two great-grandchildren, Maeli and Ayla Petersen. Joan's prayers and love encircled her family, a living testament to her devotion.

In 1997, Joan and Butch began a new chapter of adventure, spending 15 years working in Branson for numerous celebrities, including Charley Pride, the Oak Ridge Boys, Jerry Reed, Mickey Gilley, Chubby Checker, Dalena Ditto, Daniel O'Donnell, and many others. After each fall season in Branson, they delighted in wintering in the southern states, cherishing the beauty of God's creation. They returned to Fremont in 2011, settling in the Central Park Division.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents; her father- and mother-in-law, Merle and Lorrie Scott; and her brothers-in-law, Paul Siems & Jim Bieker.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Merrill ''Butch'' Scott; her beloved children; her sister, Joyce (Brand) Siems; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Bieker and Jeanine (Gary) Smith; and her treasured grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Joan's life was a testament of faith, service, and love, a light to all who knew her. Her kindness, strength, and devotion to the Lord will remain an enduring legacy. She will be remembered for her deep love of family and her gift of making connections with everyone she met.
