Ed was born on July 24, 1945 in Fremont, Nebraska to Edwin L. and Marcella D. ''Weiche'' Christoffersen. Ed graduated from Fremont High School in 1963. He married his high school sweetheart, Diana Sue Hollins, on December 6, 1963, and they raised two boys, Daniel and David. Shortly thereafter they moved to Ames, IA where Ed worked as a surveyor with the IA Department of Roads for a brief period before returning to Fremont. Upon their return, Ed worked maintenance at Hormel Foods and attended night school at the Nebraska Vocational Technical School in Milford, Nebraska where he obtained an architectural drafting degree. After graduating from Milford, Ed obtained a position working as a draftsman for Christensen Lumber, Co. and later started and managed their wood truss division, Engineered Wood Components. In the early 70's, Ed designed and built the family house at Lake Ventura where they enjoyed lake life for nearly 50 years. In 1987, Ed, his two partners, and 3 key technical employees from Engineered Wood Components left and formed Structural Component Systems, Inc which now employs more than 550 people. Ed was also a member of the First Lutheran Church in Fremont.
Above all Ed was driven to succeed, but that didn't stop him from living life to its fullest. He was an assistant scout master and attended numerous camping trips with his sons including a multi-day high adventure trip to the Rawah Wilderness in Wyoming. He had a passion for snow skiing and frequently made the drive from Steamboat Springs back to Fremont after a full day of skiing. He was a member of the Truswal Advisory Council where he made life-long friendships and traveled the world. Ed also had a love for cars. He restored them at his little car shop called Fast Eddies, participated in local car shows, and traveled all over the United States with his Corvette friends. He found great enjoyment supporting his grandchildren and rarely missed a game or activity. Ed was no stranger to the casino where he and Diana would enjoy trips to Vegas, Laughlin, Biloxi, or just a quick trip over to the boats for some fun. As Diana's health deteriorated, Ed did everything in his power to comfort her and care for her as she battled Parkinson's and other ailments that took their toll over the years. He was a caregiver through and through. In whole, Ed was a great brother, husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, a superb boss and mentor to everyone at SCS, and a cherished friend and member of the Fremont community.
He is survived by his sisters Sonja (Rix) Crawford and Kathy (Rix) Carlson, his sons Dan (Laurie) Christoffersen of Sandia Park, NM and Dave (Cindy) Christoffersen of Omaha, NE, his seven grandchildren, Madisen Christoffersen, Baylee Christoffersen, Thomas (Payton) Christoffersen, Cameron Christoffersen, Katelyn Christoffersen, Abbi (Teddy) Monte, and Chase Warren, and one great grandchild, Donnie Monte.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife Diane in 2023, parents Edwin and Marcella Christoffersen, his stepfather Ted Rix.
Visitation will be held at 9:30am on Tuesday, August 26th, 2025 at First Lutheran Church in Fremont. The funeral will be at 10:30am followed by the burial at Memorial Cemetery. Memorials are to be directed to the Fremont Community Foundation: Fremont Area Alzheimer's Fund.
