Died Thursday, June 12, 2025 at Nye Square in Fremont.
Roland was born February 22, 1930 in Arlington, Nebraska to Arthur and Lenora 'Scheer' Laaker. He was baptized at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Arlington and confirmed also at St. Paul's in 1944. He grew up in the Arlington area and graduated from Arlington High School in 1949.
Roland served in the United States Airforce from 1950 to 1954. Serving two years on Guam during the Korean War. He graduated from Midland Lutheran College (now Midland University) in 1958 and became sales manager of Marshall Nursuries in Arlington from 1960 until 1972.
Roland married Charmine (Ruff) Schiessler in 1967. In 1973 Roland and Charmine along with their son Mike Schiessler moved to Great Bend, Kansas where they opened the Laaker-Schiessler Garden Center, Floral Shop, Pet Shop and Sod Farm. They retired to Mission, Texas in 1984 before returning to Fremont in 2011.
Roland is a member of the American Legion Post 71 and Veterans of Freign Wars.
Roland was preceded in death by his wife Charmine, parents, sister Mary Lee Miller, and granddaughter Danielle Schiessler.
He is survived by three step-sons Mike (Shelley) Schiessler of Fremont, Dr. David (Lee Ann) Schiessler of Tuscola, Texas, Dr. Daniel Schiessler of Maui, Hawaii, 5 grandchildren and10 great grandchildren.
The funeral will be 10am, Monday, June 16, 2025 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont. Burial will follow in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Arlington with Military Honors. Visitation will be one hour before the service at church. Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church.
