Paul was born February 9, 1929 in Fremont to Hans C. and Selma 'Janowski' Harms. He graduated from Fremont High School in 1946. Paul served in the Nebraska National Guard from 1950-1956. On September 27, 1953 Paul married Marilyn J. Marquardt at the United Lutheran Church in Scribner and were married for 70 years. He lived in the Fremont area all his life.

Paul was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Fremont, and was baptized and confirmed there. He ushered, was a member of the church council, served on the property and memorial fund committees and was active in the ACT group. He served on the District 42 School Board, as a leader of a 4-H club and Volunteer Fireman for the Nickerson Volunteer Fire Department.

Paul's working years included farming for 40 years, retiring in 1988, working at DeKalb and Fremont Hatcheries, Fel-Tex (now CF Industries) and the Dodge county ASC Office. In 1992 Paul and Marilyn moved into Fremont.

Paul and Marilyn raised 3 children on the family farm northwest of Fremont. His passion was raising sheep and cattle. In retirement he enjoyed woodworking of all kinds. For 15 years the couple wintered in Mesa, AZ. The couple loved to Square Dance with the Fremont Starlighters and Gold Stars in Omaha. Many weekends were spent traveling to out of town Square Dance festivals and camping with the Rolling Squares.

Mark (Fiancée Sarah Springgate) Harms of Fremont
Great Grandsons - Graham Daniel and Caleb William Harms of Charlotte, NC.
Noah Ellis Harms of West Chester, OH.
Great Granddaughters - Scarlett Elizabeth Harms of West Chester, OH.
Zoe Robbie Harms of Ramstein, AB Germany

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Joan C. (Robert) Ziegler and Marian (Lyle) Wolf, brother Warren R. Harms, brothers-in-law LeRoy (Norma) Marquardt and Stanley (Mary) Marquardt of Scribner.

There is no viewing but the family will receive friends, Friday, February 9, 2024 from 5pm to 7pm at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont. The memorial service will be 1pm, Saturday, February 10, 2024 at Salem Lutheran Church in Fremont. Burial will be later in Ridge Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Salem Lutheran Church.
