I served in the Army.
Lowell Heller Meyer, of Uehling, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2024, at the age of 82.

Born on June 14, 1941, he was the oldest child born to Harvey and Helene Meyer. He was baptized on August 18, 1941, and confirmed on March 11, 1956, at St Paul's Lutheran Church, rural Hooper, NE. He grew up with his sister and two brothers, Lowene, Larry, and Layne, on their parent's farm near Scribner, NE. One of Lowell's favorite memories as a young child was getting to drive a team of Percherons that were dapple-grey in color. Lowell also enjoyed the Shetland ponies the family had while growing up and had two of his own as an adult.

Lowell attended grade school at rural District 35 near his home and graduated from Hooper High School in 1959. After high school graduation Lowell attended business college in Omaha for a year and subsequently worked at Mutual of Omaha until he returned to the family farm after the death of his father. Lowell enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1965, serving in the Army Security Agency. He served in Vietnam from November 1966, to November 1967. After being honorably discharged in 1969, he farmed and then drove trucks cross country.

Lowell loved the vacations the family took to visit relatives in Idaho when he was young and this sparked him to take off on an adventure in 1990, and live in Twin Falls, Idaho. While in Idaho he worked for Lamb-Weston and Dell, Inc. It wasn't unusual for Lowell to travel from Idaho to Nebraska and back on his motorcycle.

After retiring, Lowell returned to Nebraska and became a part of the Uehling community where he fiercely maintained his independence and also enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was a committed member of the Uehling American Legion and served as the Commander. Lowell agreed to be an ''experienced farmhand'' for each of his nephews, Tony and Jay, who greatly valued his support.

Lowell is survived by his sister, Lowene Uehling, sister-in-law Mae Meyer, nieces and nephews Julie Uehling Popken (Jim), Jill Uehling Riley (Mike), Jay Uehling (Sheryl), Jeanne Uehling, Jennifer Meyer Nicholas (Matt) and Tony Meyer as well as eight great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his special friend Joyce Nelson, parents Harvey and Helene Meyer, brothers Larry and Layne, brother-in-law Homer Uehling, maternal grandparents Julius and Grace (Haye) Heller, and paternal grandparents, Bernhard and Anna (Havekost) Meyer.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at Ludvigsen Mortuary, 1249 E 23rd St, Fremont, military honors will be conducted at the funeral home, with a light lunch following.
