Kenneth D. Meyer, age 75, of Fremont, formerly of Scribner, lost his courageous 6 month battle with cancer on Wednesday, May 28th. He died in the Methodist Hospital in Omaha.

Kenneth was born October 19, 1932 in the Ridgeley area south of Scribner to Edward and Ida 'Wobken' Meyer. He was baptized January 8, 1933 in St. John's Ridgeley Lutheran Church and confirmed on September 22, 1946 in St. Paul's Lutheran Church north of Hooper. He attended district 35 rural school and graduated from Scribner High School.

He farmed with his father north of Scribner until 1958, when he moved to a farm south of Scribner. While farming, he also worked for the Christensen Grain Elevator in Fremont. In 1972 he became the manager of the Nickerson Co-op for the next 10 years. He worked for the R.E. Reutzel Co. in Fremont, and then the Fremont Co-op Elevator until retiring.

He was a member of the United Lutheran Church in Scribner where he had served on the church council in various offices. Later he became the YOKE (grouping of area Lutheran Churches) treasurer. He had also served in various offices of the school board of rural district 90. In his earlier years, he played softball in the church league. An avid Husker fan, he was a member of Nebraska's Touchdown Club. He was a member of the Elkhorn Valley Golf Team in the Senior League. And he was a former member of the Fremont Coin Club.

On April 22, 1951 he was married to Marlene Meyer in St. Paul's Lutheran Church north of Hooper.

sister - Janet and husband Lowell Bloemker of Fremont

A memorial service will be 2 PM Saturday afternoon (May 31st) in the United Lutheran Church in Scribner with the Rev. Dr. Nicki McIntyre officiating. The committal will follow in the Hooper Cemetery. There is no viewing, however the family will be at the Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont tonight (Friday - May 30th) from 6 to 8 PM to receive friends. Memorials are suggested to the United Lutheran Church in Scribner and to the American Cancer Society.
