Howard was born to Andrew and Kristine 'Nielsen' Hoier on July 20, 1911 at Blair, Nebraska. He grew up on a farm in the Spiker community of Washington County.

On June 10, 1936 Howard and Ethel Andersen were married in her parents home near Arlington, Nebraska. They farmed in Washington County near Telbasta and Fontanelle before moving into Fremont in 1956. After leaving the farm he was a salesman for Mahnke Implement Co. and then for the Broadbent Distributing Co. before retiring in 1980.

Howard was a member of First Lutheran Church in Fremont. He also belonged to the Golden 'K' Kiwanis Club and the Fremont Eagles Aerie 200.

Survivors: 2 sons - Larry and wife Karen Hoier of West Des Moines, Iowa
Allan and wife Kellie Hoier of Ottawa, Kansas
1 daughter - Janet and husband Gene Miller of Sioux City, Iowa
9 grandchildren
14 great grandchildren

Howard was preceded in death by his wife Ethel on December 16, 1996, and by his parents Andrew and Kristine, by brothers Earl and Russell, and by sisters Laura Hoier and Ethel Danielmeyer.

The funeral service will be 2 PM Monday (June 2nd) in the First Lutheran Church (3200 E. Military St.) in Fremont with the Rev. Charlie Axness and Rev. Norman Freund officiating. The committal will follow in Memorial Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to his church.

Visitation at the Ludvigsen Mortuary will be on Sunday (June 1st) from 2 to 8 PM, with the family receiving friends from 4 to 6 PM.
