Sherri L. Adams

February 20, 1944 - May 22, 2026

Sherri L. Adams, 82, of rural Nickerson, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2026.

Born on February 20, 1944, at home near Rosalie, Nebraska, Sherri was the daughter of Floyd and Margie (Anderson) Smith. She later moved with her family to Fremont, where she graduated from Fremont High School with the Class of 1962. During her high school years, she was an active member of the Future Nurses Association, beginning a lifelong passion for caring for others.

Following graduation, Sherri attended Immanuel Hospital School of Nursing in Omaha, Nebraska, earning her nursing degree in 1965. She married the love of her life, Dale D. Adams, on September 17, 1966, in Mead, Nebraska. Together they built a life filled with family, faith, and community while living in Lincoln, Ainsworth, Leshara, and Hooper before eventually settling in rural Fremont.

Sherri devoted her life to nursing and compassionately cared for countless patients throughout her career. She worked at Memorial Hospital of Dodge County, the Hooper Care Center, and Valhaven in Valley before concluding her distinguished nursing career at the oncology department at Immanuel Hospital, now CHI Health, where she faithfully served for 33 years.

A dedicated community member from a young age, Sherri was active in 4-H as a child, participating in sewing and baking projects. She was honored as the Fremont 4-H Queen and later became a devoted 4-H leader for her children and grandchildren. In later years, she served as a county fair judge and became deeply involved with Family & Community Education (FCE), holding numerous state leadership positions. Sherri also enjoyed membership in the Prairie Piecemakers Fremont Quilting Guild, attending quilt retreats and monthly quilting groups, all of which brought her joy and lifelong friendships. She lovingly donated handmade bibs, blankets, and burp rags for children and families in need, sharing her talents and generosity with others. Sherri was also a member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Fremont where her parents were charter members.

Sherri is survived by four of her children, Vicky Heir-Leif, Dwight Adams, Dale Adams, and Amy Richardson; her brother, Dudley Smith; grandchildren, Kayla Adams, Alecia Rogers, William Heir-Leif (Destiny), Makayla Martinez, Nathan Adams (Jaydee), Sebastian Heir-Leif, and Gavin Richardson (Kirsten); and eleven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Connie Long and Marylou Adams; brothers-in-law Virgil Adams and Leo Adams; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dale; infant son, Andy; her brother, Larry Smith; and her parents, Floyd and Margie.
