Richard "Dick" D. Nott
May 31, 1940 - March 6, 2026
Richard Douglas Nott, age 85, of Fremont passed away on March 6, 2026 at The Heritage at Fox Run in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
He was born on May 31, 1940, to Harold and Rosezella (Mock) Nott in Fleming, Minnesota. He grew up in Hooper, NE and graduated from Hooper High School in 1957. He worked at the Hooper Co-op and married Marilyn Smeal in 1961. In 1967 he began work for OPPD as a lineman, (retiring in 1999,) and in 1972 he and Marilyn moved to North Bend. Dick was an elder and trustee over the years at St. Peter Lutheran Church. He loved driving his riding lawn mower across town to upkeep the lawn there. He used that same lawn mower in the winter to help his neighbors clear their driveways and sidewalks of snow, before they even got the chance. Dick was very active with the North Bend Optimist Club, always volunteering with events for the kids/community. Over the years he coached his kids' baseball, softball and basketball teams. While living in Cedar Bluffs he served for 7 years on the Cedar Bluffs Volunteer Fire Department. In 2001 he and Marilyn moved to Fremont where he was a part of Trinity Lutheran Church and enjoyed many games of pitch with the card club.
Dick enjoyed collecting Studebaker memorabilia, he had a particular love for the 1962 Silverhawk. He enjoyed playing and watching all sports, always making an effort to be at every single game, race or meet that his kids/grandkids were in. When rooting for the Nebraska Cornhuskers he liked to get up, whistle and do a silly dance when there was a touchdown. He had a great sense of humor, always trying to joke and get people to laugh. Dick enjoyed playing cards, fishing, woodworking, listening to polka music, and picking up golf balls in the backyard of Fremont. Dick was a huge part of his kids and grandkids lives. They will miss his constant smile, goofy sense of humor but most of all his presence, because he was always there for everyone. He was a dedicated dad, ''D'', brother, son, uncle, loyal friend and husband. Most of all, he was such a helper. He always put his needs aside to help anyone at the drop of a hat. We will miss the way he always answered the phone, ''Hello, Dick's bar and grill...''
He was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn, daughter Jill (Nott) Watson, parents Harold and Rosezella (Mock) Nott, brother Gary Nott, sister Janice (Nott) White, sister-in-law Donna (Smeal) Kehne and brother-in-law Ken Kehne.
He is survived by sons Troy (Christin) Nott of Cedar Bluffs, Todd Nott of Plattsmouth, Kelle (Nott) Carnes (K.C.) of Signal Mountain, TN, son-in-law Brian Watson of Fremont, sister Joan (Nott) Stevens (Dave), Gene Nott (Marian), sister-in-law Alice Nott, 18 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.

Memorials are suggested to the church or Cedar Bluffs VFD. Combined visitation will be Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel from 3pm to 7pm with the family present 5pm to 7pm.
