Bruce E. Johnson
November 9, 1948 - July 29, 2025
Bruce Edward Johnson age 76, passed away peacefully at his home in Arlington, Nebraska, on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.
Bruce was born on November 9, 1948, in Grantsburg, WI, to Sidney Burnett and Doris Johnson. In 1949, the family relocated to White Bear Lake, MN, and soon after settled in Nebraska. Over the years, Bruce lived on several family farms, including Jo-Be Alamito Dairy in Omaha, Cottonwoods Farm and Willford's Farm in Fremont, and eventually returned to Jo-Be Farm in Valley. The family finally settled in Fremont, NE in 1963, where Bruce graduated from Fremont High School in 1967.
In 1968, Bruce married Barbara Slaga, and together they had two daughters: Jodi (Neal) Gibbs of Plano, TX, and Jill Johnson of Frisco, TX. He was a proud grandfather to Sydney and Samantha Gibbs, also of Plano, TX. Bruce was a determined and hardworking man. He began his career at the Hormel packing plant before moving his young family to Grand Rapids, MN, in 1976. There, he established Steamatic of Grand Rapids, a business he ran with dedication until 2001. Upon the passing of his wife, Barbara, he returned to Fremont, NE to be closer to his parents and brothers. In 2006, he founded High Esteam, which he owned and operated until his retirement in 2021.
In 2003, Bruce married Janet Heinrich, and the couple made their home in Arlington, NE. They shared a love for the outdoors, hiking, fishing, and camping trips throughout Colorado, Minnesota, and South Dakota. They also enjoyed traveling to Texas to spend time with family.
Bruce was a man of deep faith who loved God with all his heart. He lived his life as a reflection of Christ's love, sharing his beliefs openly and generously with all he met. He had the best sense of humor and was grateful for every blessing.
Bruce was an active member of the Church of the Nazarene since 1976 serving as a board member, youth leader, Sunday school teacher, numerous bible studies (most recently based on The Chosen along side Janet). He also loved singing in small groups and the choir.
As an avid outdoorsman, Bruce enjoyed hunting (deer in Minnesota and pheasant in Nebraska), fishing anywhere he could - especially on guys' trips to Canada and South Dakota - and spending time golfing, camping, hiking, and proudly driving his cherished 1967 GTO.
Bruce's strength, kindness, and unwavering faith left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
