Marjorie J. Johnson

Marjorie Johnson, age 101, of Fremont
passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at Dunklau Gardens in Fremont.

Marjorie was born on December 19, 1922, at the family farm in the Prairie View area north of Craig, NE. Her parents were Orrin and Jennie (Hampton) Smith. Marjorie was honored to attend the first Nebraska Girls State in 1939 and then graduated from Craig High School. Marjorie attended Wayne State in 1941 and then taught for over 20 years in Nebraska rural schools.

Gerald Johnson and Marjorie were married at Camp Fannin in Texas in 1945. After Gerald's army service, they began farming in 1947 in the Prairie View area. In 1959 they moved to Gerald's home area near Argo, southwest of Craig. They farmed there for 20 years.

In 1980, Marjorie moved to Fremont and lived in her pleasant little house on Platte Avenue. She babysat her grandchildren and worked part time at the APT Sewing Store for several years. Marjorie enjoyed attending auctions and garage sales and having garage sales of her own.

Marjorie was a member of the VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries. She was also active in WELCA at Elim Lutheran Church in the Swaburg area.

Marjorie was a regular volunteer at the Fremont Friendship (Senior) Center and served on the board of directors and activity committees.

In 2015 she moved to an independent living apartment at Nye Square in Fremont. Marjorie was a great story teller and was able to recall detailed family history and events from her childhood through current times.

She was preceded in death by her husband Gerald in 1979, brother William O. (Iris) Smith, sister Velma (Phillip) Cooper, sister Opal (Willard) Lofdahl and brother Dan (Elaine) Smith.

She is survived by her son Keith and his wife Mari and her grandchildren, Brooke & Adam, along with several nieces and nephews.

There is no viewing but a Prayer Service will be held at Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont at 3pm on , Saturday, February 10, 2024. Burial will be at Elim Lutheran Cemetery (Swaburg) at a later date.

Memorials are suggested to Elim Lutheran Church. (2312 County Road D, Hooper, Nebraska 68031).
