He was born August 23, 1939 in Marysville, Kansas to Benjamin and Mae Messick. David was a 1957 graduate of Marysville High School then studied financing at Kansas State University before enlisting in the United States Army in 1960. After his military service, he worked for a VW dealership, before opening his own repair shop in Kansas City, Kansas.
He also worked for Owens Corning Fiberglass in Kansas City, retiring in 1997 and moving to Fremont. He opened Fishermans Point at the state lakes which he operated until 2002. He coached the Fremont High School boys bowling team from 2002 to 2008, and ran the bowling teams fireworks stand through 2014. He was Santa Claus in the Fremont Mall from 2009 to 2012. His hobbies were bowling, fishing, collecting fishing equipment, and fixing fishing poles and rods for others. He loved to watch car racing and football, but most of all, he loved his dog Mia.
On August 27, 1984, David was married to Leoda Dickerson Florence.

He was preceded by his parents, a brother Gene Messick, sister Gale Padgett, and step-son Randy Florence.
The funeral service will be 2 PM Monday (Oct. 20th) at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel, Fremont. Visitation will be Monday beginning at 9 AM until the service at 2 PM. The committal will follow in Ridge Cemetery with Military Honors by the Fremont Honor Guard of the American Legion Post 20 and VFW Post 854. Memorials may be directed to the family.
