Jackson Eric Blick

Send Flowers Send Flowers
Jackson Eric Blick was born on April 12, 1997 (on his father's 26th birthday) in Grand Haven, Michigan. He died as a result of a car accident on Monday, June 3, 2013 at the age of 16. He had just completed his sophomore year at Fremont High School in Fremont, Nebraska. Jackson is survived by his parents, Eric and Jodi Blick; siblings Justine (14), Turner (11), and Grace (9); grandparents Lyle and Virginia Nelson of Fremont, Richard and Shirley Blick of San Jose, CA/Fremont, NE; aunts and uncles Merritt and Dannika Nelson (Oakland, NE), Dwight Nelson (Omaha, NE) and Brent and Karen Patterson (San Jose, CA); cousins Dacey, Caden, Sadie, and Chaney Nelson (Oakland, NE) and Kennedy Bretz (San Jose, CA); special friend Mollie Blanc (Oakland, NE).

Jackson's 16 years were inquisitive, energetic, vibrant, and full of life! He was funny, witty, opinionated and social. Jackson had a bright mind and a love for learning. He enjoyed the challenges of advanced classes and staying involved in school-related activities like Student Council and College Club. Recently Jackson was honored to be selected to the Fremont Chamber of Commerce's 2013-2014 Youth Leadership Academy. Jackson started playing the drums at a young age and it quickly became one of his favorite activities. He was involved in concert band, marching band, jazz band, and his church worship band. He also enjoyed a number of sports, including baseball, football and basketball, but this past year he joined the cross country team and track team and discovered a real passion for running. Jackson had many hobbies. His favorite was fishing at his grandparent's lake in his fishing boat. He also loved to water ski, go boating, play golf, fly helicopters, air soft, collect coins, play electronics with friends and spend time with his girlfriend Mollie. For the past 3 years, Jackson and his family have been involved in starting a new church in Fremont, Grace Church, PCA. He poured many hours into ministry by playing in the band, demo/restoration work in the downtown building, helping with VBS, and going with a mission team to Kenya. Jackson was continually growing in his faith and gaining a deeper knowledge of and love for Jesus. His family rejoices that because of Christ, and God's gift of faith, "to be absent from the body is to be present with Christ" for whom we were made.

Visitation will be Thursday from 5pm to 9pm with the family present from 6pm to 9pm at the Fremont Alliance Church. The funeral will be Friday 10am at the Fremont Alliance Church. Private burial will take place at Salem Covenant Cemetery near Oakland, Nebraska. There is no particular memorial designation at this time.

This is such a tragedy and no parent should have to bury their child.
This is a hurt that time will not really ever heal. I speak from experience since we lost our son Andy in 2009 and we will never out live the pain.
It is critical that the parents and grand parents never forget to love each other and rejoice in the time that you had with your beautiful boy.
We have lost touch with cousin Dick and Shirley over the years, but think of them often.
  2. Jerry Ludwig
To the parents of Jackson Blick, I did not know Jackson, but can understand your terrible lost. I coached his Granddad Lyle Nelson at Oakland High School, back in 1959.
My heart goes out to all of Jackson's Family members
    Sincerely Coach Ludwig

My heart is just heartbroken for your whole family. I worked with Shirley at Immanuel. She just loved Jackson and bragged about him often. This begins a new journey in your life and we are praying that the Lord will be a rich supply as you face the days ahead.
  6. Steve Oliver
I didn't know Jackson, but I knew the other two young men, and want to express my deepest sympathy for your loss. Jackson sounds like a great kid and our entire community will miss his presence. We will keep your family in our prayers.
  7. Pat & Bill Hineline
To the Blick family, and Lyle & Jenni,

Knowing Jennie for over 50 years does not make this any easier, because I too am a Grandma, and I am finding it very hard to know what to say. I know that God is always in control, and he only wants what is good for us. That being said, Jackson must have a special place in Heaven with our eternal Father. God bless you now and always.
    With love, Bill & Pat
  8. Rachel
Only God knows why things happen, but he still has a plan for us, and His plan for Jackson may be that you will go on with your lives as he would want you to, and to share him and his desires with others.
May God bring you peace in His time.
  9. Elizabeth
You don't know me, but my thoughts and prayers are with you. My deepest condolences.

    Dear Blick Family,

I am so very grateful to have had the opportunity to get to know Jackson this past semester in my math class. Since January, I have tried to think of a former student to compare to Jackson, but never could! He was such a unique young man. Talented in so many different ways - extremely intelligent, a great musician and athlete. Most importantly, he had a personality that will forever be cherished by everyone who knew him. This stems from the love of life that he always demonstrated in everything he was involved in. And his sense of humor was unmatched! His final two tests in Honors Algebra 2 were each 100%, with the second one being his Final Exam. But his motivation in the classroom went well beyond trying to maintain his 4.0 GPA. He always wanted to learn, and asked more questions (about half of which were on topic!:)) than any student I have ever had in class. I thoroughly enjoyed having Jackson in class, and will never forget all the memories made during those four months.

Your family has been in our thoughts and prayers all week, and words cannot express our sorrow during this difficult time.
  19. Tammy & Joe Fryman
    To Jacksons family
You have our heartfelt sympathy in the loss of your dear son. We are praying for your family to feel the peace that passes all understanding.

  28. Dan Koenig
    Blick family,
I had the honor of interacting with your son as an administrator at FHS. He was a true leader and represented the attributes that we look for in our students. He had this energy that surrounded him that made you believe that he was going to tackle the world. When I was lucky enough to have conversations with him, he was extremely respectful and showed he cared about others...What a great young man.
  29. Judy Anderson
I'm sure you don't know me but I've worked for FPS for many years and although I didn't know your son I do want you to know how very sorry I am for your loss. Janet Busse is my daughter and I saw where she sent the poem " I'll Lend you for a little while a child of mine." This poem brought me comfort when I lost my granddaughter of 20 years. This tragic accident was such a schock for you parents and all your families I hope you know the entire city of Fremont is praying for all of you. Your strength will come from God and although you think you will never laugh again you must rejoice in the fact your son was truly a child of God. I pray for you to find comfort and Peace in the difficult days ahead.
  30. Cindy LaPole
My deepest sympathy to your family. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. I hope you find peaceful moments in the weeks ahead and joy in the memories you hold dear.

  32. Donna Anderson
    Dear Blick Family,
I hope you are feeling some small comfort from the prayers of all who knew Jackson and you. As a 5th Grader he always heard his own drummer and had the confidence to express his opinions, but never made people feel small because of it. As I read the thoughts of others, I know I am not alone in feeling a sense of loss, but also know that your faith will help you in this tragic time to find the peace that only God can give. You have been in my prayers and I will continue to pray for you as time moves forward. May God Be With You!
  33. Joyce Graybill

  35. Joyce Whitaker

  54. Eric and Elaine Olson
Eric and Jodi, words cannot describe how we weep with you at this time. Our hearts are heavy for you right now. And though no one knows exactly what you're going through except our dear Father in heaven, we have a taste of what you're experiencing, as we lost our infant son Micah 10 years ago, last month. We never (never!) thought we would get through the grief, but by God's grace, and only by God's grace, He has brought us through. Heaven has become very, very near to us, ...as never before. Though we do not know you well, we ache with you. And pray for you... A song that Jesus comforted us with was "Untitled Hymn" by Chris Rice, especially the lyric "Sometimes the way is lonely, and steep and filled with pain. So if your sky is dark and pours the rain...then cry to Jesus, cry to Jesus, cry to Jesus and live." Grieving with you... with hope. -Eric & Elaine Olson

  55. Janet (McKinney) Busse
I did not know your son, but I was born and raised in Fremont, and knew both Todd Hansen and Wes Walling, and I can't comprehend how much you are all grieving at this time. I can tell by reading Jackson's obituary that your family has alot of faith in the Lord, and if there is any comfort to be found, it is in knowing he is in a much better place. Please know that I have been praying for all of your families this week, and that I will continue to pray for God's grace and comfort for your family at this incredibly sad time.

    For All Parents

I'll lend you for a little time,
A child of mine he said.
For you to love there while he lives,
And mourn when he is dead.
It may be six or seven years,
    Or twenty two or three.
But will you, 'til I call him back,
Take care of him for me?
He'll bring his charms to gladden you,
And shall his stay be brief.
    You'll have his lovely memories,
    As solace for your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay,
    Since all from earth return.
But there are lessons taught down there,
I want this child to learn.
I've searched the wide world over,
In my search for teachers true.
And from the throngs that crowd life's lanes,
    I have selected you.
Now will you give him all your love,
    Nor think the labor vain.
Nor hate me when I come to call,
    To take him back again?
I fancied that I heard them say,
Dear Lord, thy will be done.
For all the joy thy child shall bring,
The risk of grief we'll run.
    We'll shelter him with tenderness,
We'll love him while we may.
And for the happiness we've known,
    Will ever grateful stay.
But shall the angels call for him,
    Much sooner than we planned.
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes,
    .....And try to understand.
