Doris was born October 15, 1923 in Beatrice to William and Marie (Nydegger) Rhodes. She grew up there, graduating from high school in 1941. She became the secretary for the general manager of the Gambles office in Beatrice.
On April 14, 1945, Doris was married in Beatrice to Arnold F. Mains. In 1948, the couple came to Fremont, due to the Gambles regional office being relocated here. Doris was then secretary to the regional manager. Later, she was employed by Brodkey's in downtown Fremont during the years of 1973-'74. In 1975 she began employment with K-Mart in Fremont, working there until it closed in 1985.
Doris was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Rural Letter Carriers Auxiliary, (Arnold was with the US Postal Service). She was also a Gray Lady with the hospital, and she was a member of Arbor Vitae Chapter 92 Order of Eastern Star and it's Kensington group.
At age 50, Doris took up golf, and she and her husband played in the couples league at Hooper. She loved animals, especially cats. She loved music, crossword puzzles, weekly lunch with her K-Mart friends, the color green, and food.

2 sons Kevin and wife Kelly, Albuquerque, New Mexico

7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, 3 nephews and 2 nieces.
Doris was preceded by her husband Arnold, parents, brother Jack Rhodes and his wife Elaine, daughter-in-law Karen Mains.
The funeral service will be 10:30 AM Monday (August 15, 2016) at the First United Methodist Church. The committal will follow in Memorial Cemetery. Visitation at the Ludvigsen Mortuary will be on Sunday from 2 to 7PM with the family present from 5 to 7 PM. Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church and Trinity Lutheran Church organ fund.
