Shirley was born August 7, 1941 in Omaha to Herman and Dorothy 'Schiller' Mayer. She was raised in Fremont and attended Fremont High School. Shirley married Tommy J. McDonald on October 6, 1962 in Randolph, Nebraska and they resided in Fremont. Shirley worked for the City of Fremont Parks and Recreation Department mostly in the concession stands at the ball fields and also taught youth bowling. She was an avid bowler and was inducted into the Fremont Bowling Hall of Fame. Shirley was a member of the 'Antique Club' that met mornings at Burger King for coffee.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Tommy in October of 2006, 2 infant children, brother, sister and her parents.
The funeral will be 2pm Thursday at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel. Burial will follow in Memorial Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3pm to 8pm with the family present from 6pm to 8pm. Visitation will continue for one hour before the service on Thursday.
