Irene was born in Fremont on October 17, 1941 to Wallace and Hilda 'Katt' Wittmann. She was baptized on October 28, 1941 in Winslow at the home of her grandparents. She attended Vacoma grade school in Washington County for two years before moving to Winslow and finishing grade school at Stecker School District 15. She was confirmed on April 11, 1954 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Winslow by Pastor Walter Lang with her sponsors Norma Wittmann and Rudy Wittmann by her side. Irene graduated from Hooper High School in 1959. She moved to Fremont and worked at George Schweser's office, Little Audrey's Trucking then went into her banking career. She worked 38 ½ years at First National Bank in Fremont (previously First Tier then US Bank) before finishing her career at the First State Bank & Trust in Fremont. In total she had worked for 45 ½ years in the banking industry.

Irene is a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont. She was a member and officer of CPI (Credit Professional International). Not only did Irene love to square dance, which she did for 15 years, she was also an officer of the Spinning Wheels Square Dance Club. Irene was also a member of the Prairie Piece Makers (Quilting Club.) Irene enjoyed quilting, when traveling they would stop at many quilt shops. She enjoyed going on quilting 'shop hops' in Nebraska. Family was very important to Irene, she attended many sporting and school events of her grandchildren, she also enjoyed working on Family Tree History. Irene enjoyed spending time outdoors working in her flower and vegetable gardens and attending Nebraska Cornhusker football games.

Irene Norma Wittmann was married to Larry Dean Homes on July 16, 1961 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont. They were married for 53 loving years.

Irene was preceded in death by her father Wallace Wittmann.

The funeral will be 10:30am Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fremont with the Rev. Dr. David Coe officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church and the American Cancer Society. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3pm to 8pm with the family receiving friends from 6pm to 8pm at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont.
