Velma Mae Crew (Brinkley) was the daughter of Cleve and Florence Brinkley was born January 5, 1916. Her childhood was spent in rural Ayrshire, Iowa where she graduated from Silver Lake Consolidated School.

Velma married Marvin on May 22, 1940 at the Methodist Church in Ayrshire. She and Marv took up farming for many years to follow.

Velma and Marv moved to Fremont to be closer to their daughter and son-in-law in 2002. After Marvin's death Velma lived alone until she was 97. She then moved to Nye Legacy where she enjoyed the activities and lots of company daily.

She was a member of First English Lutheran Church of Spencer, Ia.

Velma passed away September 5, 2017 at Nye Legacy.

She is survived by her daughter, Ramona and her husband, Randall Sanders of Fremont, NE, one grandson, Daniel Crew and his wife, Tracy of West Des Moines, IA and two great grandchildren; Abby and Josh and Mary Crew ( widow of Gordon) of West Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Cleve and Florence Hastings, son Gordon, two sisters Vernie and Neva.

Memorials may go to Good Shepherd Lutheran lighting fund (Fremont Ne), 1st English Lutheran Church (Spencer, Ia) or Dodge County Humane Society (Fremont, Ne).

Services will be 10:30 Friday at the Warner Funeral Home in Spencer, Iowa. There will be no local services however friends my sign Velma's guestbook at www.Ludvigsenmortuary.com. Ludvigsen Mortuary in charge of local arrangements.

    Velma will be truly missed. I have enjoyed the last 4 years working with her and getting to know her and her family especially her grand-dog buster. 💙 . Velma truly is a beautiful person inside and out! It was such an honor to be able to take care of her. She will always have a special place in my heart.
