I served in the armed forces.
Merlyn was born on March 13, 1930 to Philo and Gladys (Penlerick) Thompson at Allen, Nebraska where he grew up on the farm. He worked on the farm and in construction before serving in the military.

He served in the United States Army from December of 1952 to October of 1954. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal w/1 Bronze Service Star, the Combat Infantry Badge, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.

Following his military service, he came to Fremont where his wife was living while he was in the Army. On March 29, 1953, Merlyn was married to Jean Carlson. Merlyn again took up working in industrial/commercial construction, with his job taking him all over the country.

Norman and wife Maxine Thompson of Kearney
1 sister Betty Miner of Wakefield
Merlyn was preceded in death by a son Terry Lee Thompson, daughter-in-law Lila Thompson, 3 brothers and a sister.

A memorial service will be 2 PM Saturday afternoon (June 8th) at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel. The family will determine a memorial fund later.
