Lotus B. Petersen, age 96 of Fremont, formerly of the Yutan area. died Thursday evening (Nov. 27, 2014) in Arbor Manor, Fremont.
Lotus was born November 3, 1918 in Yutan, Nebraska to Louis and Minnie (Stamp) Kuehl. She grew up on the farm near Yutan and graduated from Yutan High School.
On February 24, 1954, Lotus was married to Carroll Petersen. To this union was born a daughter Debra and a son Gregory. They lived briefly in the Benson area, and moved to the family farm, where she was born, north of Yutan in 1956. In 1979, they left the farm and moved into Fremont.
Lotus was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Yutan, where she was baptized, confirmed and married.
For many years Lotus loved being a housewife, mom and grandma. Lotus enjoyed a farm life where she grew up and raised her family. Lotus enjoyed working in her yard and in her home in Fremont. She made her house a home and enjoyed decorating for the holidays. She was an awesome cook and looked forward to entertaining family and friends. She loved shopping and going to coffee.
Lotus loved to dance and she danced many years with her husband Carroll and their friends. Above all, she loved spending time with her family, daughter Deb, son Gregg, and her 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren and her life long friend Georgia Feist, they were true sisters at heart.
She was preceded in death by her husband Carroll on October 17, 2003, by her parents, her daughter-in-law Elizabeth Petersen, brother and sister-in-law Lauren & Gertrude Kuehl, and a special friend Georgia Feist.
Survivors: daughter Debra Podany of Wisner son Gregg Petersen of Yutan 4 grandchildren Kimberley and husband Matt Bachman of Norfolk and their daughter Reese Chad Podany of Pilger and his 2 sons Cade and Knox Lacey and husband Chris Harris of Omaha and their children Addison and Graham Cole Petersen of Omaha Sister-in-law - Shirley (Wes) Smith of Arapahoe, NE. Nieces and nephews
The funeral service will be 10:30 AM Wednesday (Dec. 3rd) at St. John's Lutheran Church in Yutan with the Rev. Charles Smith. The committal will follow in Hollst Lawn Cemetery. The visitation will be on Tuesday from 5 to 8 PM at St. John's Lutheran Church. Ludvigsen Mortuary, Fremont is assisting the family.
