Max H. Christensen

Max Harley Christensen, age 94, of Fremont, died September 24, 2015 at Shalimar Gardens.
He was born December 14, 1920 to Chris and Hilda (Hansen) Christensen on the family farm near Farwell, Nebraska. He was baptized into the Lutheran Faith at St. Peder's Lutheran Church, Nysted, Nebraska. Max attended District #47. He enlisted in the United States Army August 1942. He served as a parts clerk and rifle marksman during World War II with the 255th Ordinance Medium Maintenance Company in the European Theatre from 1942-1945 with a rank of Sergeant Fourth Class. He was awarded five battle stars for actions in campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge) and Central Europe.
He returned to Howard County and began farming. On March 28, 1946, he was united in marriage to Marjorie Frandsen in Dannebrog, Nebraska.
While farming near Nysted, Max was an active member of St. Peder's Lutheran Church, Dannebrog Rural Fire District Board and Howard County REA.
Max and Marge moved to Fremont in 1991. Max was an active volunteer at Low Income Ministry and First Lutheran Church. He has been employed at Baker's since 2000. He was an avid card player.
Max faithfully donated blood to the American Red Cross, having donated over 26 gallons in his lifetime. He saw this as, "just the right thing to do". He was a devoted husband and family man, dedicated worker, volunteer, neighbor and friend.

Max is preceded in death by his wife Marjorie, brother George and sisters Sylvia Ibsen, Mildred Nelson, Katherine Crha, Alice Bartle, Grace Jensen
A memorial service will be held 11:30 AM Friday, October 2nd, at First Lutheran Church with Rev. Marty Tollefson and Rev. Mark Grorud officiating. The committal will be at Memorial Cemetery at 10:30 AM with Military Honors (preceding the Memorial Service). There is no viewing; family will receive friends at Ludvigsen Mortuary, Thursday (October 1st) from 6 -8 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials to First Lutheran Church or Fremont Community Blood Drive, c/o American Red Cross, 3838 Dewey Avenue, Omaha, NE 68105.
